Perkins Museum Field Trip

Last week the 2/3 class took a trip to the Perkins Geology Museum at UVM. We explored the collection of rocks and fossils and figured out how fossils serve as evidence for how the land has changed over time. A great example of this is the Charlotte Whale, which provided evidence that Lake Champlain used to be the Champlain Sea approximately 10,000 years ago! The class saw many fossils from Vermont, including fossils of cephalopods and trilobites, and others from around the world. They were also able to investigate how fossils typically form in certain types of rocks, by feeling different sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous rock. We had a wonderful time!
