What we’ve done in art so far…
It has been a productive and fun first few weeks of art class! The last few weeks have consisted of exploring lines, shapes, colors, and textures. We started the year off by collaborating on painted paper for our infamous art room “Paper Shop.” Next, we celebrated International Dot Day on September 15th by printmaking with India ink to make circular designs and then painting them in with liquid watercolor – the 2/3 artists made their mark! The artists also contributed colorful designs and illustrations to the school-wide 1/4-dot artworks. Soon after, the 2/3 artists honored International Peace Day on September 21st in art by creating paper pinwheels and discussing what peace means, sounds like, and looks like.
In the last couple weeks, we’ve been fortunate to have had beautiful Vermont weather so artists needed to enjoy and experience creating artwork outside! We discussed what a landscape is and took our art materials outside. Artists first brainstormed the two Elements of Art needed to create the landscapes: line and texture. The amount of time and attention taken to create these pieces was impressive.
Currently, artists are creating a piece of artwork to include in their brochures for global studies! Each artist has chosen his or her own path for this project – some have decided to create something three-dimensional and then photograph it and others are painting a scene, creating a detailed drawing, and/or designing a unique header. We’re having so much fun exploring different artistic avenues!
